Graham is PCET Networks FE Champion this month! |
FE CHAMPIONS July 2006
Graham Swindon

Biography
Graham is currently the Deputy Manager of an Education Department in a Women’s prison. His subject specialism is IT, so alongside supporting the Education Manager, Graham co-ordinates the IT Department, which currently provides prisoners with the support and skills to gain qualifications in CLAIT and IBT.
Before commencing his career in prison education, Graham lectured at a college for disabled adults. This position was the start of his thriving career within FE.
From an early age, until the age of forty, Graham worked for bookmakers on racecourses and dog tracks. His position became redundant after the bookies introduced computerised systems.
Graham has successfully gained his Cert Ed and is keen to add further qualifications to his portfolio.
Interview
PCET Network: What do you enjoy most about teaching adult learners?
Graham: I love their enthusiasm. It is very rewarding to see the smiles on the learners faces when they pass a
course. Some of the students have never received formal qualifications before and it is a real boost to
their confidence.
PCET Network: What would you say to someone who is thinking about pursuing an
FE career?
Graham: Go for it! Its hard work, but extremely rewarding.
PCET Network: Have you got any good advice you wish to share with other FE
Tutors?
Graham: Treat people with respect and you will receive it in return. This advice applies to ALL teachers, not just
the Tutors in FE.
PCET Network: How did you become an FE Tutor?
Graham: A change of career was forced upon me. The main attribute was loving the sound of my own voice – so
teaching suggested itself!
PCET Network is pleased to introduce Graham Swindon as the FE Champion for June 2006.
