Hi, I am doing my final year Bsc in Maths(Hons) and would like to teach. PGCE or PCET, that is the question, I am a mature student and I have done 15 years+ in business and other professions. I have tried student teacher associate scheme for a secondary school and would like to know more about FE, anyone with first hand experience on either is appreciated. Thank you.

With those qualifications you should get straight into FE lecturing and study your teaching quaification at college; You could study the PG/CE Professional Graduate Certificate in Education with QTS for schools and QTLS for FE.
PG/CE or cert in education PCET
PGCE for practitioners with a degree
PCET for vocational practitioners with a minimum of NVQ L3
Both will provide you with a certificate in education but there are a few more moduals in the PGCE.
I have my PCET Year 1 working to my Year 2 and on completion i can apply for QTLS
but i can still practice as a gas engineering lecturer/assessor.
I will be studying for Bed and hopefully further.
Best Wishes for the future. |

Hello, im new to these chat room type formats so bear with me! Ive been accepted on a PCET PGCE course leading to QTLLS - my degree was in History and i have cited this as my main area to teach and i have taken an additional diploma in teaching literacy in the LLS. I have my concerns as to how marketable this qualification will be in the fe job market - and secondly my history degree was done 12 years ago and i fears that my subject knowledge may have waned! If any kind soul could put me straight on these questions it would be much appreciated, thanks in advance. |

Hi,
I'm new on here and really need some help. I have just qualified with QTLS and have a job teaching Alevel in a Sixth form centre. The centre is attached to a school (although the sites are separate).
The job i applied for and was appointed for was for a part time teacher to be paid 0.5 main pay scale. No salaries were discussed at the interview and i found out with my first pay packet that im being paid as unqualified!!! Can they do this? surely if im not qualified they should not have employed me?!?!
I have not signed a contract yet - any ideas what i should do?
Thanks |
