I have an BA English 2:1, I taught ESOL at a uni in South Korea for 4 years, I came back this year and i'm currently studying for the PCET. If I do not choose a specialist route then will I still be able to teach literacy and ESOL or do I have to do a specific course or module(s) relating to these areas ??? I am so confused about the whole thing-Oh and will I be able to teach in High schools-I thought not but then someone on my course said I will be able to...
If anyone can help give me a bit more clarity about what I will and won't be able to do i would be extremely grateful
Thanks Feel a bit of an idiot! |

Hi
You have very good qualifications and you should apply for QTS to be able to teach in schools
QTS is the qualification that allows you to teach in state schools in England and Wales, and ensures that all teachers have met the same standards and posses the relevant skills and knowledge to provide an equal teaching platform for all children throughout England and Wales.
To obtain QTS you must complete ITT (Initial Teacher Training), preparing you for QTS. There are a number of ways to complete ITT depending on your status and level of education.
For experienced teachers that may have been working in the independent sector, you may be able to complete an Assessment Only option to gain your QTS.
PCET is a recognised teaching qualification for students intending to teach in the post compulsory and further education sector.
As you are a post graduate i assume you are studing the PGCE for QTLS
Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) is a new award for teachers in the learning and skills sector, and covers both taught and practical skills.
There are two stages to the QTLS qualification. The first stage is an initial 'passport to teaching' module. The second stage is full teacher training.
QTLS was introduced in full from September 2007.
I will complete my PCET year 2 in july 09 when i will apply for QTLS.
Good Luck with yours! |
