Hi all, my name is Vicky, I am but 22 and I am currently studying the PTTLS course with a view to doing the Cert Ed in September.
At the moment I am giving up 2 hours a week as a teaching assistant with hopes of gaining employment as a teacher; substantial enough to support the Cert Ed.
The problem I've got - and this might sound stark raving bonkers - I don't really have a subject that I REALLY want to teach. I don't have a degree in anything, there's not one particular subject at school that I adored. I like all sorts of things a little bit. My personal interests aren't really things you'll find on a college course list.
I am going to try to get a qualification in Literacy because it's simple and it's one of the subjects I did slightly better at in school but I don't really have a hunger for it as opposed to something like Art.
I feel like I'll have a better idea of what I'd like to teach as I gain more experience as a teacher and get older.
People always ask me "what are you going to teach?" And when I say "well it'll be Literacy initially and then I'll see..." they look at me as if I'm mad.
I don't want to teach specifically because of a love I have of a subject, I want to teach because in general I like helping people to learn and improve their lives.
Does this sound awful?? |

Hi Vicky
If you're planning on studying for a CertEd, why not opt for primary teaching - this will enable you to teach different subjects rather than specialise? Younger children are easier to control too and that's a major part of teaching.
Good luck in your career |
